Safe Carding for AI Applications, Products, and Models
A Unified Validation and Compliance Platform for Healthcare AI
The Problem - AI Gun Slinging in a High Risk Domain
As AI-based healthcare applications proliferate, the validation, safety, and compliance oversight for these tools are inconsistent. Vendors are incentivized to launch products rapidly, often prioritizing features over patient safety, which can result in liability risks for both hospitals and AI companies. Testing and validation reports—where they exist—are siloed, scattered, or incomplete, creating a compliance gap and adding significant administrative burden for healthcare providers. Hospitals need a standardized, efficient approach to ensure each AI application meets regulatory, safety, and interoperability standards without overwhelming resources.
Introducing Safe Carding for Healthcare AI Applications, Products, and Models
'SafeCards.ai' is Scheduled for Launch on January 1, 2025
SafeCards.ai is a platform that provides a unified validation and compliance solution for healthcare AI and consists of three primary components:
Safety Cards – A high-level, standardized summary detailing what each AI application was reviewed for, including specific compliance areas like HIPAA, FHIR interoperability, and clinical sensitivity and specificity. These Safety Cards create transparency and simplify compliance reviews.
Card Locker – A secure, comprehensive report repository with in-depth findings on each application. The Card Locker allows hospitals and AI vendors to access detailed results, including privacy audits, sensitivity and specificity metrics, interoperability checks, and more. It serves as an ongoing validation tool, offering insights into model performance and drift over time. Card lockers can be forked by healthcare providers allowing them to add more information or test results to the base layer of information.
Cards Marketplace - A simple way for decision makers to sort, filter and review the safety of AI products and models that are suitable to meet their specific requirements. Cards are proposed to be color coded with green (high safety), yellow (medium safety and requires developer intervention) or red (high-risk; avoid). Safety-carded solutions will be available across a range of application areas including Clinical Decision Support, Patient Engagement & Communication, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), Electronic Health Records (EHR) Automation, Voice and Speech Recognition and more.
